Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Only See 4GB Ram

If you ran in this situation where that your Bios said you have more than 4GB of ram but Windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition says you only have 4GB ram.  It is because your server doesn’t have hot-add memory devices.  In this case, you would need to add the ‘/PAE’ (without the quote) to the ‘boot.ini’ file.

E.g.

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS=”Windows Server 2003, Enterprise” /noexecute=optout /fastdetect /PAE

This works with the following operating systems only:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
